After attending the University of Alabama, Ben moved to Aspen and worked at the Sundeck Restaurant for a couple of seasons. On the advice of a family friend he decided to check out Telluride in the fall of 1989. Ben immediately saw opportunity in the up and coming ski town. This prompted his move in the spring of 1990. Ben opened Freewheelin’ Bike & Board, a sports store, and it soon became one of the first stores in the country to become a snowboard specific shop. Ben and his business quickly became an integral part of the Telluride community.
Growing up in Montgomery, AL had its advantages. Ben was always drawn to the outdoors, and at a young age began camping, canoeing the southern rivers, and fine-tuning his bike riding skills, eventually racing BMX. Being close to the Florida Panhandle, he became an avid sailor as well and took many adventures with his younger brother. At a young age Ben’s family began skiing Aspen Mountain and from that point on he was hooked on the Rocky Mountains. Ben has skied, snowboarded, and sailed in places all over the globe including Canada, Mexico, Coast Rica, Hawaii, BVI, France, and many more exciting destinations. Ben’s passion continues to be skiing, snowboarding, and sailing but his biggest thrill has been his two boys: Zane, 18, who graduates this year and will be attending CU, and Frank, 14, who will begin high school this year.
Over the years, Ben has been blessed by all that the Telluride community has to offer both in his personal and professional life. Ben has been involved with his community over the years, and has given back in a number of ways including: starting the festival Melee in the Mines (a mountain bike race and event), assisting with the closing events for the Telluride Ski and Golf Company, and hosting one of the world’s first Boardercross events. Ben has also volunteered for many good causes like KOTO, regional housing solutions groups, and being President of the local Rotary Club in 2008-09.
Ben’s philosophy with clients is to use his acute market knowledge in a professional manner to ensure his clients are getting the best property available based on the buyers’ criteria. Ben’s involvement in some of the regions significant developments has taught him much in the way of identifying certain trends in our market and staying ahead of the curve. This has proven to be an invaluable asset for his clients making sure that in negotiations to purchase, the buyer has the facts as well as what may not be known by others regarding a property before finalizing an offer.
Ben’s 20 plus years in the real estate and development markets of the Telluride region and his outgoing personality in the community has made Ben one of the top producers year after year. Telluride Real Estate Corp. is the Christie’s affiliate for the Telluride Region. This gives Ben local knowledge with a global reach. Ben has clients from all over the world and is looking forward to meeting you on your next visit to Telluride!
